Creating the Sound of Umbridge
Staunton’s portrayal of Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix became one of the defining performances of the franchise. Rather than relying on an obviously frightening appearance, she created a character whose sweetness and politeness masked an increasingly authoritarian personality.
