Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields made its debut with an ambitious combination of music, community and advocacy. Held at Great Park in Irvine, California, the inaugural festival brought together thousands of fans and an all-women lineup featuring major contemporary artists alongside influential musicians from previous generations.
The festival welcomed approximately 45,000 attendees and was designed not simply as another music event, but as a celebration of women in music and a platform supporting organizations that work on issues affecting women and girls.
Olivia Rodrigo Creates a New Kind of Festival
Rodrigo launched Daisy Chain Fields with a clear vision: create an environment where female artists could share the spotlight rather than compete for it.
The lineup included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Garbage, Bikini Kill, The Breeders, Santigold and several other performers. The festival also featured nonprofit organizations working on women’s health, rights and economic opportunities.
The concept drew inspiration from Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, the influential all-women touring festival of the 1990s. Rodrigo’s event brought that idea into a new generation.
Chappell Roan Delivers a Crowd Favorite
Chappell Roan was among the day’s biggest performers, delivering a high-energy set filled with some of her most recognizable songs.
The singer appeared in a distinctive retro-inspired outfit before launching into a hit-heavy performance. Her appearance became one of the festival’s most memorable moments, particularly as the massive crowd responded enthusiastically to her songs.
Roan also embraced the spirit of the event, performing alongside artists from different generations in a festival built around female creativity and community.
Doechii Brings Energy and Representation
Grammy-winning rapper Doechii brought another dimension to Daisy Chain Fields with a theatrical performance celebrating women and queer communities.
Her set mixed original material with references to influential Black women artists who helped shape contemporary music. The performance demonstrated how the festival’s message extended beyond a single genre or generation.
Doechii’s appearance also reinforced one of Daisy Chain Fields’ central themes: giving artists space to celebrate the women who influenced them while inspiring the next generation.
Bikini Kill Delivers a Powerful Message
Punk pioneers Bikini Kill provided one of the festival’s most politically charged performances.
Frontwoman Kathleen Hanna used the stage to discuss misogyny and encourage men in the audience to challenge sexist attitudes among their own friends. The band’s performance connected Daisy Chain Fields with the feminist punk movement that helped inspire many younger artists.
Songs including “Double Dare Ya” and “Rebel Girl” turned the set into both a musical performance and a rallying moment for the crowd.
Surprise Performances From Music Legends
One of the biggest surprises came during Rodrigo’s closing set when several of her musical heroes joined her onstage.
Sarah McLachlan, whose Lilith Fair served as an important inspiration for Daisy Chain Fields, performed with Rodrigo. The pair sang “Building a Mystery” and “Angel.”
Alanis Morissette also made a surprise appearance for a performance of “Ironic,” creating a memorable cross-generational moment.
The biggest emotional highlight came when Stevie Nicks joined Rodrigo for “Landslide.” The duet allowed Rodrigo to perform alongside one of the artists she has long admired.
